Thought 1: I admit to being a but indecisive about this blog. I have struggled to update it regularly because of my workload with school and have attempted to lure myself here with blog makeovers and changing the name (which worked temporarily). The thing is, I'm in love with the concept of a blog. I love instagram which is essentially a mini blog (much easier to update quickly and on the go) but the concept remains the same. I cherish the records of life and I know I will look back on these posts lovingly one day, but as of now I struggle to find the motivation to post. Recently I grappled with the idea on whether or not to stop writing here but a lovely reader (hey Veralynn!) sent me the sweetest email that reminded me why I love to document my time as a nursing student. Thank you Veralynn!
Thought 2: Regarding the name of this blog. Some of you may remember that I changed the name here from The Antique Pearl to Dotti Dee to match my IG name a few months ago. Everytime I post here though I think about that name and I realize that even though I love it on IG I still feel like it's not a good fit for this space. I may be changing things around here soon in terms of the name (or I may learn to love it) but to be honest (awesome readers) I'm afraid of being obnoxious with all these switches.
Thanks for reading this slightly neglected space week after week. You guys make my day with every comment ♥

question: what are your feelings on blogging? Let it all out!
I just feel that some things are better left unsaid. And who really wants to read the sh*tty things we have to say about life and other things? Most bloggers are pretty positive people and I think most of us like to share positive things. It's like real life, we have certain people we confide in. We (or most) are all aware that, nothing and nobody is perfect. It's just whether or not we want to share every little detail(s) to our life. :)
ReplyDeleteEek I'm hoping you aren't saying I'm being negative! I didn't intend for this to be a negative post at all!
DeleteNo No Miss Dotti. I didn't hope that you thought I thought you were negative. Not at all. If you were negative, I would not continue to come at all. This is actually very realistic and I ponder about it here and there... I love coming to your blog. :)
DeleteThanks for the clarification dear! I was genuinely curious :) and thank you very much <3
DeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeletePersonally, I liked the look overall of the blog before the change, but I love the new name and especially the new logo. Right now, I feel like it's a bit too white (but that's just me - white is my personal enemy, lol), but I can see why you like the simplicity with your hectic life.
I never think that you don't update enough. Once or twice a week seems appropriate and you always have something to say. Why update everyday with silly space-filler?
I love following you here and on IG. You're always very inspiring with your outlook on life, school, style, and inspiration. Though we lead very different lives, I always feel connected to what you have to say about life and your personal honesty.
Stay lovely :)

Thank you dear :) You're so sweet
DeleteI agree with Sarah, I have a lot of crappy things to say but I don't because there's enough junk on the interet, why add to it? I started my blog as a positive space for myself and it has grown to be a positive space for others. As for name changes, go for it! A blog's name is important for branding purposes so my best advice is to really take your time and think of a blog name that you truly adore, then go for the change! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't feel like I'm being negative here! I didn't intend for it to be read that way ;) I'm really considering a change but we'll see! Thanks for your comment!
DeleteIn response to Jean, I think you can say whatever you want on your blog. What I like most about the space you've created is the honest look into your life you provide. Most of the time it's positive, but sometimes it's not, and this just fine as well.

I think there is something special about someone that shares the great moments of life on their blog but also says "hey, I'm human and have crappy days!" it makes a blog come to life more and allows people to relate to you.
ReplyDeleteI definitely relate to you on this subject. I love the concept of blogging as well, I love being able to read about other people's lives, ideas and inspirations. I don't love the pressure. I have a blog to express myself in a new way...not an outlet of escapism of the world or to please others, it can be hard to not get wrapped up in it.
At the end of the day, do what you love...and do it because YOU love it and want to share. Forget the negatives, the pressure and be real. When you share your true feelings (good or bad) it is easy to relate to and is always uplifting to see that people go through the same things sometimes.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I am excited to see where you take your blog and I believe it is going great places.

Thank you so much for your sweet comment :) It really brightens my day to hear that people have similar ideas as I do about blogging!
DeleteI don't know how I came across your blog...you get to clicking away and somehow either you get lost or you land on a blog you really enjoy reading. However it was, I'm glad I found you. I have read through all your posts and loved them all. It's interesting that I happened upon you at this current post. I recently lost my old blog after writing there for three years and was forced to start a new one. None of my followers still don't know what happened to me I'm sure. Even though there were some big changes (I was also considering a name change) I wanted to make and contemplated taking a break but once I was forced to start over, I not only felt a little sickened by the thought of it, but feel a little re-energized. Even though I'm just writing to myself now! :)
ReplyDeleteI like when people write honestly and from the heart on their blogs. I want to share good things but I also want to feel free to express all the unhappy things that also go on in life. We're all human and not everyday is a great one. I like to read the blogs that are more personal and I have really learned a lot from their opinions and perspectives. I say write what you want and let us take away from it what we want/need.
I like the look of your blog, especially your header. That's what made me continue reading.
Anyways, sorry to ramble.....just it's nice to be here. xo
Sarah
Thank you so much for your sweet comment! How did you lose your old blog?! Nevertheless I'm glad you decided to get back at it and I hope this one works splendidly for you <3
DeleteAnd don't apologize for rambling, I asked you to let it all out ;)

Well the short version is that I had a corrupt email address that I deleted and in doing so, deleted all my google accounts. They can't retrieve it and I couldn't log in anyway if they did so I was forced to start over after three years. I did change the name but am going forward in somewhat the same direction. It's frustrating because I lost all my followers...they had no idea why and where My Yellow House blog went to. But I am a firm believer in things happening for a reason... I just need to figure this one out!
DeleteI am happy to have stumbled upon yours though...it's a delight.
