Favorite Posts of the Week - XI

Elsie's walk down memory lane (Oh & who else think's that's the perfect dress?)

Favorite thing's this week:
Finishing my second to last woman's psychology test + two of my community studies test (general's are fun ;), Getting Chinese food with Jordan & watching the lord of the rings (extended version obviously), Buying a new dress at Goodwill & watching Jordan attempt to carry a bright orange easy chair out of the store, & packing for my move back into the dorms next week.

What were your favorite things/posts of this past week?

Favorite Shop - The Magic Carousel

It's very rare I happen across a store where I want everything in it. But the curator of the Etsy shop The Magic Carousel makes it hard not to want everything you lay your eyes on. There is a magical feel to every piece of clothing and each piece evokes a strong feeling of nostalgia. The owner of the store writes an equally lovely blog where she describes her fascination with "things that have been loved, been used and been saved in a time when everything is disposable. it is from this love the magic carousel was born, a project many years in the making."

lemon chiffon dress (This is my absolute favorite)

Favorite Posts of the Week IX & X

Jordan had family staying over last week so we were very busy. After they left I realized I had forgotten to post my favorite posts of the week! So here are my favorite posts from the last two weeks.

I was loving EVERYTHING on A Beautiful Mess over the last couple weeks so this was really hard to narrow down. I absolutely LOVED her 10 Things I Love // Mad Men Edition post along with an awesome tutorial on how to style a beehive hairstyle and how to rag roll your hair. And as if all that wasn't sweet enough Elsie's sister posted a recipe for Lemonade Cupcakes. Nom.
The Cherry Blossom Girl & Miss Pandora both posted an beautiful set of photos from there trip to The Carnival of Versailles. Also check out this set of photos from The Cherry Blossom Girls trip to Kenya.
Another favorite from The Sartorialist.
Jeana Sohn posted this video on her blog & I just had to share it because its so pretty!

So I'm considering all the different types of posts I write here and I would really like your input. Do you like my favorite posts of the week? Do you have any suggestions for my other posts on here? Is there anything you'd like to see more of? Let me know below!

Isabel Marant

I'd rather shop at Goodwill than Chanel. I'd choose Etsy over Net a Porter anyday.... but... (there it is)... every once in a while something catches my eye that nearly tricks me into wishing I could ditch my thrifting mindset and become a designer type of girl. Last year it was the YSL Ring (still loving and coveting) and this year it is the Isabel Marant Booties. Yeah, I'm sure you saw that coming a mile away (and there is the fact you can see the picture ;)

July 1922

I love going into the Vogue archives and reading the captions with the covers. Something really drew me to this issue. It's funny. In terms of our history 89 years really isn't that long but when you read some of the captions below you truly get a sense of how much things change over time.
Price: One Shilling & Six Pence Net
"Handkerchiefs and reputations are exceedingly easy to lose. Both are lost in about equal numbers daily. All the reputations lost are very good ones - and the more irretrievably lost they are, the better they were. The handkerchiefs lost should be better. Imagine a lady saying, 'My reputation is gone, but I don't care. It wasn't any good'. Yet that is exactly the attitude she takes toward a lost handkerchief.'"

"Midsummer millinery has not been so reactionary for many season, for the modistes, instead of striving for radical originality, have gone frankly back into the recent past to an epoch sartorially more complicated, but politically far more simple than our own. The woman of 1922 may have relativity on the brain, but on their heads the majority of them will have the capelines of their grandmothers, the headgear of a day when the sweetly feminine was the ideal, and fainting at the sight of a mouse was the favourite form of exercise."

"Everybody goes in silks, often light of hue and amazingly varied in design. The town as well as the country is radiant as never before with flowered chiffons and silks, with hardly a hint of soberness. Fashion, with a flair for the much talked of international spirit, has borrowed colours and motives from all countries, and we see wending their way in and out of town this summer, dresses graceful in length, subtle in line, and glowing with colour."

After me comes the flood

I must go on standing
You can't break that which isn't yours
I must go on standing
I'm not my own, it's not my choice
Fevrale dostat chernil i plakat
Pisat O Fevrale navsnryd
Poka grohochushaya slyakot
Vesnoyu charnoyu gorit
Be afraid of the lame, they'll inherit your legs
Be afraid of the old, they'll inherit your souls
Be afraid of the cold, they'll inherit your blood
Après moi, le deluge
after me comes the flood

Get the look

I wrote a post a while back about the bag Jordan bought me for my birthday and the other day while perusing etsy I spotted a bag that has an uncanny resemblance.

Ladies and Gents(?) I present to you. The Vintage Professor Messanger Bag.
We could match!

~Sarah

UPDATE: ok so apparently it sold the day after I wrote this & I failed to check it before I posted. Oh well, the resemblance is still sweet!
