Camera Cliche

I have to ask the age old question (well age old up until the point of the existence of the camera). What camera should I get? As I said in my first post on this blog I am unable to take daily what I wore pictures because of my lack of a camera! And I really want to showcase my favorite outfits! Any input is welcome!

RED HOLGA CAMERA (ModCloth)

Pros: Intended overexposure, brightening of colors and overlapping exposures. Its perfect for the vintagey look and did I mention ITS RED! Also it is a cheap! $75 for the camera a lookbook and a roll of film!

Cons: It does not use a standardized size of film and not all stores will develop it. So my what I wore pictures would have to be a week late =(. Also I was hoping for a digital but for the price I'm not sure I can resist!

Nikon - 10.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera

Pros: A sleek SLR, makes my mouth water, and its digital! What more could you ask for!

Cons: $550... *faints*

Petite Paparazzi Camera (ModCloth)

Pros: Deliberate abstract lo-fi pictures, its $60! For the camera a look book and a neck strap! Also it uses the standard film size!

Cons: Its not digital. =(

Fujifilm 10.0MP Digital Camera

Pros: Digital, SLR (looking) camera, and average price $200.

Cons: I'm still on the fence and I'm not sure why...

So what do you think? Should I spend a fortune for splendidly sharp pictures or dirt cheap for intentionally grainy vintage looking pictures? Should I get the digital, easy to connect to the computer camera or should I sacrifice convenience for the hippy-esque look that I'm extremely drawn too. I'm going to go check my bank statement, maybe that will help me decide =)

Happy Shopping Everyone,

Sarah

  1. The holga is fun in that it creates art by doing a bad job of taking a photograph. Not the best choice if you want to take photos that will be more about clothing than the spooky randomness that a camera prone to light leaks will create.
But a very fun camera to play around with.

As digital SLRs go, I've been a cannon girl myself, so I can't say much about the nikon or the fuji.

I've had various incarnations of the canon elph as my go-to-have-at-all-times camera and it hasn't let me down. While it is just a point and shoot it's a nice little camera. You can get one for about $180, and you can have any color you want! I'd get the pink.

Ultimately, if I were choosing between film and digital, it would depend on whether I were doing my own printing or not. Film might not be worth it if you can't control the prints.
